This was not what I was expecting at all. I was expecting a book that told the story of Brith of Jesus Christ. Instead I got a book that just touched base on the birth with very short passages. The book did have activities to do each day but this activities where for much smaller children. We love the Odyssey series and all of the other Odyssey devotionals swe have. This one was just a big let down. I would not recomend this advent to anyone.
We love Odyssey and belong to the Odyssey Adventure Club so can enjoy all the Christmas episodes (one for each day, which I love, as they have listed in this book). We started this when our kids were too small to cut out the houses and people by themselves so we've done just a couple of those each year. As with anything that's educational in any way, you can pick and choose activities and things you do with this Advent book. These devotions with a Bible passage and activities are quick simple things that you can do together. It assumes that kids know the Christmas story and gives things to think about each day such as the love God showed us by sending Jesus and how we should show that to others. That's definitely something we need to constantly be reminded of as we are selfish people by nature. I recommend this to any family who loves Adventures in Odyssey.
As stated by other reviewers, this book is not worth the purchase. The mini discussions are shallow, at best, and if you do have the CD, it's a bit of a chore to match up the book with the recorded episodes. We ended up just using the model buildings, and listening to the CD, and ditched the mini-lessons altogether. Our discussions were much better on our own.
I didn't care for this at all. I wasn't expecting black and white coloring book style buildings. On a school night there just simply isn't time to color it and assemble it and incorporate it all into an evening routine. I might have paid more if the pages were printed in color, but even then. It was lacking. The devotions were super shorts. Not very meaty. We did a few and then I gave the book away. It was not at all what I had expected.
I was not impressed with this nor was it what I expected. It really is just a paper village to cut out and assemble. The devotional portion is nothing like I expected. We were thinking it would be more like their 90 Devotions for Kids book. These are very short and not meaty at all-- and nothing like the other devotional book. I honestly would not recommend this as there are much better resources available for amazing advent devotionals and/or activities.
I really don't like this at all. You have to put a paper craft gather every day. I also did not like the stories. Guess I'll just give it away.
Love it. Another great product from Focus on the Family.
