In North America, they've explored the B.C. This book is clearly written and contains interesting, useful information. The color photos are beautiful. The maps, directions, and distances for the hikes we tried were accurate.However, the difficulty ratings were insane!! The High Note trail (rated "easy to moderate", "2 to 6 hours") was one of the most technical, grueling hikes I've ever done -- and we didn't even do the Musical Bumps option. The official Whistler tourism maps rate this trail a Black Diamond, the most difficult trail in the area. Even with hiking poles, we had to pay constant attention to our footing to avoid slipping. This trail would be even more treacherous in wet weather, something the book doesn't mention. Nor does it mention the (admittedly short) sections where you have to use ropes bolted to the rock, because there is no reliable footing. There would be no safe way to do this trail in 2 hours. On the plus side, the advice regarding gondola timing and food/water was right on point.Another example -- the Joffre Lakes hike is rated "easy". I guess that's accurate if your idea of an easy hike is climbing a mountain. Once again, there is no mention of the fact that this is a terrible wet weather choice, since the trail is steep and the footing is mostly dirt.The book omits some genuinely easy, lovely hikes, such as Lost Lake.While useful, this book is suitable only for people who want really difficult, technical hikes. The average day hiker looking for a pleasant short outing will not find the book helpful. The product description should be more clear on this point.
