I almost didn’t read past the 2nd page. I read this to my 7 year old daughter tonight and was very disappointed. I purchased this online so did not have the opportunity to see there there’s a white doll in the book which make the little girl feel like she can’t be a princess because she’s not white (or vanilla as the author put it). Your children will be who they are raised to be, don’t let them play with white dolls and they won’t feel inferior to white people. I think the author meant well but he missed the mark. We do not have to have white princesses in our girls minds to teach them about princesses of color. My daughter loss interest When we saw the white doll and all but closed the book the next few pages without illustrations.
I’m very disappointed in the copy I received of this book, this review is not for the author of the book. I bought this book for my niece at the Civil Rights Museum & despite getting other books my daughter wanted a copy of this book once we left so I ordered it on amazon for the same price I paid for the 1st one. I got received the book & it’s not the original copy! Compared to the origina one I bought in store the one I received from amazon is missing pages of the Black princesses at the end, not the same material, it’s made with something similar to regular printer paper & the picture photos are darker, obviously photo copied plus it has a few blank white pages in the beginning & end. If I wouldn’t have seen an original copy I would’ve never noticed. I really hope the author knows these type of copies are being sold.

My daughter loved this book! I was able to show her that royalty can look just like her. We googled each woman portrayed in the book and read the bio about them. Just to see the smile on her face, made me even happier! She even enjoyed her autograph edition book :).
It is a god book. I'm reading to my daughter and she has been enjoying it.
